This "You & Julia" French Cooking Class' menu consisted of Lobster Thermidor, Boeuf Bourguignon and Chocolate Souffle. With learning, cooking, and eating, the entire event took over 4 hours and costs $145.
The class itself was taught by chef Takashi Mizukami and a couple of assistants helped out during the event. The structure consisted of learning a dish, cooking it, eating it, and then repeating until all 3 are done.
The facility is great! We had about 40 people attend and everyone was accommodated with everything that was required. Each station consists of a table for 2 with 2 sets of dishes, ingredients, etc and a stove right behind the table. You get to enjoy your own dish with a wine pairing at a dining table in a separate room. While you cook, some snacks are provided (french break and hummus with a sausage in our case) to make sure you don't eat the raw ingredients, which, by the way, were of high quality.
The dishes turned out great and it was nice not to have to buy the ingredients and clean up afterward. All ingredients were measured and laid out in front of you. Although you do still need to chop yourself :)
-1 for having to kill a Lobster. Even though I am not one, I would take a vegetarian class next time :) A great corporate event!

Awesome and Quiet

If you are looking for a quieter coffee shop that still has great coffee, this is the one for you.
Located a couple of blocks away from the busy streets, it doesn't have as much foot traffic, just the regular customers. But they don't need it as much, they brew and sell their own coffee. So if you're looking for some choices, you'll get them here!
-1 point for not having amazing pastries :)

This cafe earn a 10 from me!
Situated right by Vancouver Convention Center, it's a cafe, deli, and bakery rolled into one. You can even get greeting cards there!
First, the coffee. The coffee from here is currently at the top of my list because in this latte (and God knows I love latte's!), I can actually taste the coffee and it doesn't taste, burnt, bitter, sour, and whatever else it tastes like in most coffee shops.
Second, the pastries. The ganache pastry is to die for! I go to heaven every time I have it. Every little spoonful gently melts on your tongue, transforming from one flavour into another, in a firework of sensations. This is literally how I feel!
At the back of the coffee shop, there is a display of about 10 beautiful cakes that I have yet to try (but definitely will!). They look amazing.
Finally, there is also a deli where you can get sandwiches, thin crust pizzas and the like. The portabello mushroom grilled sandwich was very good (now I made myself want one now)!
The decor is nice and the coffee shop itself is modern, but still cozy. I now make a point to go their weekly and look forward to trying it all!

I'm not normally the person to listen to podcast or audio books or anything else just audio besides music. But this one got me at first site... err.. sound.
This podcast is a marriage of science and philosophy. It explores various questions like what do you do when your own worst enemy is you and shares various stories, like the one about a woman who would stop recognizing her surroundings from time to time, in the form of interviews. It explores remarkable stories and tries to explain them through science. You will definitely learn a thing or two. And might even be inspired.
The sounds effects, the hosts, the story tellers are all so undeniably hypnotizing. You really have to pay attention to ever word. My favourite time to listen to them? Right before I fall asleep :)

A private little park
one year ago
It's a private little park on Fraser River. It's not actually an island, but a peninsula, so you don't have to take a boat there :)
This has been our location for BBQ's with friends for quite some time, as it has a covered picnic area that we have yet to share with anyone while we are there. We only ever see a few locals walking their dogs.
The open area allows for sports and a short walk to the water (a bit swampy) has some interesting views and wildlife. There is a playground area and a washroom right by the picnic area. There are also electric outlets there - great for making tea on chilly spring or fall days.
The park itself is only a couple km long, so don't expect long walks.
If you are looking for a private BBQ place for you and your friends, try it out.

I am a runner and I have an iPhone - of course I need an app to track my running! While I could get a separate gadget for pulse, ditance and time tracking or estimate it with a watch, my main goal was to track the distance - and how convenient to be able to do all that with your phone!
This app lets you do all that. Track the distance (through GPS) and trace it on a map, record time and speed on a per kilometer (or mile) basis and save your runs after they are done. You can track your walking, running or driving (I love knowing how far I've walked!).
Unlike some other free apps, it lets you pause your activity without having to start a new one.
GPS tracking is not always perfect (sometimes it draws little zigzags when it's searching for your location, especially when you were off limits for a bit), but it's better than some other apps I've tried.
My music and my running app on my iPhone make me even more excited about my runs!
